Meet Laura Grace, Brisbane Psychologist
Knowing that starting therapy can be daunting, I thought I’d introduce myself. I’m Laura (she/her) and I’m a registered psychologist who works primarily with those who experience pelvic pain and mothers in the perinatal period.
If you're feeling hesitant about starting therapy, you're not alone. It's completely normal to feel unsure or nervous about seeking support but taking that first step can be beneficial. Therapy is confidential and you can expect a safe and supportive space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings, learn new skills, and develop a deeper understanding of yourself. It is important you work at a pace that feels manageable for you and in this sense I am conscious of therapy being challenging but not overwhelming. Together we can unpack what brings you to therapy and repackage it in a way that feels more helpful and fulfilling for you.
I strive to be authentic and human as a therapist and I understand the importance of building a strong therapeutic relationship with my clients.
I approach therapy from an attachment and trauma-focused framework and aim to help women understand and heal from past experiences that may be continuing to impact their lives. I listen from a place of compassion and respect and want to help you navigate life's challenges and find greater meaning and fulfillment.
I recognise the unique challenges that women face when experiencing pelvic pain or navigating the perinatal period. I aim to provide compassionate and evidence-based care, tailored to your needs and goals. There is no one-size-fits-all in therapy. I understand that each person is unique, with their own set of experiences, values, and goals. That's why I take a personalised approach to therapy, working collaboratively with you to identify your needs and tailor my approach accordingly, drawing on a variety of evidence-based techniques and practices.
I have experience in working with mood disorders (such as anxiety and depression), personality disorders, single incident and complex trauma, adjustment to chronic illness and pain, support with mood disorders during pregnancy and adjusting to life as a parent, grief and loss, pregnancy loss and termination, and fertility counselling (except for where a donor is involved). I have a specific interest in supporting individuals who experience pelvic pain and have worked in this area for a number of years. This clinic is LGBTIQA+ friendly, sex-worker allied and welcoming of those in poly or other diverse relationships.
My therapeutic approach relies on evidence based frameworks. I have undergone additional training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
